Yet another K-pop star has raised eyebrows after showing off an alarmingly thin frame.

South Korean singer Wendy, best known as a member of the chart-topping girl group Red Velvet, has shocked many of her longtime fans after losing what appears to be a lot of weight.

PH๏τos of the 32-year-old at the K-pop Super Live festival over the weekend went viral due to her gaunt appearance.

‘She looks like a completely different person and she’s way too skinny,’ wrote one concerned fan.

‘Seeing people worry about Wendy breaks my heart. I just hope she’s healthy, happy, and taking care of herself,’ added another.

‘I’m honestly getting tired of seeing female idols getting so skinny. It’s just so unhealthy,’ wrote a third.

After her weight loss became a H๏τ topic in the South Korean media, Wendy herself addressed the speculation in a social media post to fans and claimed that her thin figure was simply down to losing muscle mᴀss because she hadn’t exercised enough.

‘I haven’t been able to exercise in over a month. I lost a lot of muscle. I’m going to start again after promotions are over,’ she said, according to Koreaboo.

‘I lost a bit [of weight] and I lost a lot of my muscle because I couldn’t go work out,’ she replied to a fan.

She then insisted that her health was fine despite her gaunt appearance.

‘It might look like I’m not healthy, but I am! Of course, if I gained a bit more weight than I am right now, I’d be healthier!’ she wrote.

Daily Mail has contacted Wendy’s management for comment.

Wendy’s weight loss comes not long after her Red Velvet bandmate Joy also caused a stir with her shrinking frame.

Joy, 29, was originally famous for her healthy physique and chubby cheeks when Red Velvet first debuted in 2014, but the star got down to her skinniest weight ever last year.

‘She looks like a completely different person and she’s way too skinny,’ wrote one concerned fan

Before losing weight, she had complained on a Korean variety show that she was jealous of skinny people and wanted to be ‘reborn’ with a slimmer body type.

Red Velvet are currently preparing to release a new album тιтled Velvet Summer, which drops on August 3.

The K-pop industry brings in billions of dollars for the country’s economy each year, so it’s no surprise that nothing less than complete and utter perfection is expected from the industry’s young stars.

According to the investigative book тιтled K-pop: Idols in Wonderland, as many as eight out of 10 female K-pop trainees stop menstruating due to extremely restrictive diets, reports the Korea Times.

Other factors, such as stress and lack of sleep, are also likely to blame.

In 2023, K-pop star Hyein, who is a member of the girl group NewJeans, revealed the paltry meal she was surviving on during a music video shoot.

In a short clip shared online, the teenager, who was fourteen at the time, was seen picking at some sliced avocado, two-halves of a single cherry tomato, and some yellow rice.

Meanwhile Momo, who is a member of the chart-topping K-pop group TWICE, once confessed to starving herself so severely that she feared for her own life.

The Japanese performer, now 29, said that she was told to lose 7kg (15lbs) in a week ahead of TWICE’s official debut in 2015.

If she failed to do so, she wouldn’t make it into the group.

She ended up eating nothing more than a cube of ice and exercised nonstop for a week to hit her target weight.

‘I didn’t eat anything for the whole week and went to the gym all the time. I spent all my time so there was no water in my body,’ she revealed on the program Jihyo Candy Nights.

‘And when I laid down on the bed and tried to sleep, I was scared that I wouldn’t wake up again, so I suddenly started crying,’ she continued.

‘I ate one cube of ice, but I thought that I might get fat with even that. That’s what I did, but I didn’t lose 7kg by the D-day, so they gave me about three more days.’

Momo was able to make it into TWICE, who have since become one of the best-selling girl groups in music history.
