Elon Musk slams Anne Hathaway over her transgender rights speech

Posted by max - July 29, 2026

Elon Musk has taken aim at yet another star from Christopher Nolan’s ‘woke’ adaptation of The Odyssey after his critiques of Elliot Page and Lupita Nyong’o.

On Sunday, the 55-year-old Tesla ‘trillionaire’ took to his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to slam ‘marionette’ Anne Hathaway over a speech she gave in support of gay and transgender rights in 2018.

She had spoken at that year’s Human Rights Campaign National Dinner in Washington, D.C. while accepting the National Ally for Equality award.

Hathaway’s speech advocated for ‘equality’ while acknowledging the ‘privilege’ she has as a white, straight, cisgender woman.

‘That myth is that gayness orbits around straightness, transgender orbits around cisgender, and that all races orbit around whiteness,’ she told the crowd at the time.

‘And it is a myth that keeps money and power in the hands of the few, instead of being invested in the lives of the free.’

Elsewhere, Hathaway admitted that she was ‘scared’ of ‘what [she sees] every day, by what [she hears] every day’ – seemingly referring to the Trump administration – while ‘giving major side eye to anyone that thinks differently’ than she does.

Hathaway credited the LGBTQIA+ community for helping her ‘reject [the] myth’ that straight, white, cisgender people are the default.

‘I appreciate this community because, together, we are not just going to question this myth. We are going to destroy it,’ she concluded.

Hathaway’s now-eight-year-old speech resurfaced over the weekend after Gad Saad, a marketing professor with over 1 million followers, uploaded a video reaction on X calling the screen star a ‘degenerate narcissist.’

He accused Hathaway of being ‘smug’ and ‘self important’ while declaring that ‘every conceivable syllable’ she uttered was ‘wrong.’

Saad’s reaction video, which has already garnered over 1 million views, found its way to Musk, who decided to weigh in.

‘She’s just a marionette,’ he replied before accusing Hathaway of not even having written the speech herself. ‘Whoever wrote her speech is the real douchebag.’

He doubled down on his take in a follow-up reply as he insisted that Hathaway was ‘just reading the script someone else wrote’ and that the speech was absent of ‘critical thinking.’

In reaction to Gad Saad’s recent critique Hathaway’s eight-year-old speech, Musk called the actress a ‘marionette’

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Hathaway and Musk for comment but has yet to hear back.

Musk’s tweets about Hathaway, who plays Queen Penelope in Christopher Nolan’s Greek epic, comes just days after he vowed to use his AI platform Grok to make a ‘historically accurate’ The Odyssey.

‘Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,’ Musk, 55, said on his platform X last Wednesday.

Musk made the statement in response to an AI clip from Grok Imagine using dialogue from Homer’s Odyssey, posted by the account @heavypulp.

The controversial tech mogul has made multiple comments critical of Nolan’s casting decisions, including choosing Black actress Lupita Nyong’o to play Helen of Troy and transgender star Elliot Page to play Sinon.

‘Nolan has lost his integrity,’ Musk posted in February in a response to an X user critical of Oscar-winner Nyong’o’s casting.

The user said that ‘helen of troy was fair skinned, blonde, and ‘the face that launched a thousand ships,’ adding that ‘casting choices that make the premise incoherent are admissions that the story was never the point and an insult to the author.’

Musk also said he agreed with a post from conservative personality Matt Walsh in a similar vein.

Walsh’s post read: ‘Not one person on the planet actually thinks that Lupita Nyong’o is ‘the most beautiful woman in the world.’

‘But Christopher Nolan knows that he would be called racist if he gave ‘the most beautiful woman’ role to a white woman. Nolan is technically talented but a coward.’

Stating his thoughts on Page’s casting in the movie, Musk reposted a number of posts that took aim at the transgender actor’s credibility in portraying a masculine role, when it was rumored Page would be playing the role of Achilles.

Musk said he thought the idea of Page portraying a heroic warrior character was ‘one of the dumbest and twisted things I’ve ever heard.’

He also posted a laughter emoji in response to an AI pH๏τo depicting Page clad in a warrior outfit while having trouble opening a jar of pickles.

In a post on X in May, Musk said that Nolan’s casting decisions for the motion picture were influenced because ‘he wants the awards.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Nolan, Nyong’o, Page and Musk’s company for further comment on the story but did not hear back.

The motion picture is an interpretation of the Greek poem from Homer which describes the journey of King of Ithaca Odysseus (Matt Damon) as he seeks to return home after the Trojan War.

The movie’s cast also features Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron.

It has been a smashing success at the box office, generating in excess of $264 million upon its first weekend in theaters.

Musk’s remarks about an AI remake were panned by actor Colman Domingo, who served as guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week.

Domingo said on the show: ‘Now Elon Musk is planning to create what he calls a ‘historically accurate’ version of The Odyssey, using his Grok AI – and by ‘historically accurate,’ he means whiter than Christmas at Cracker Barrel.’

He continued: ‘This is all because Elon and his Musketeers are upset over the diversity casting of The Odyssey.

‘And I don’t wanna get technical here, but you can’t make a historically accurate version of something that is totally made the f*** up – I mean, The Odyssey is fiction. You know, like The Hunger Games, or the president’s cognitive exams.’

Domingo added: ‘I mean come on, doesn’t Elon Musk have better things to do? Wasn’t this b**** supposed to be on Mars by now?’
